If you are looking to borrow a sum of money then it is likely that you are looking to apply for a personal loan, rather than any other. The personal loan is simply a term used to describe the standard types of loan - a loan or a consumer, rather than a business for general purposes (not for a mortgage which is obviously seen as a mortgage).
Most personal loans can be used for any purpose, chances are that the lender will not even be very interested in what you want for the money. Their main concern is to ensure that you will be able to repay the loan! This situation may be different with an expert loan (which also fall under the banner of personal loans), such as loans for mortgages and cars, for example. These loans must be used for all purposes - which is a great DIY project or a car purchase.
In addition to this, the majority of personal loans work in much the same way. You ask your loan, your money and then spend it as you wish. You can then make a regular payment (usually monthly) to your lender to repay the money borrowed for the period of the loan agreement. This payment will consist of a sum of money used to pay the original amount borrowed plus a sum used to pay interest will be charged. So at the end of his term of loan you have repaid the original loan and interest in the particular loan.
One difference to note here is that between secured and unsecured personal loans. Unsecured loans are given to consumers without security (or for those who choose not to use the protection provided for a loan). These loans usually have higher interest rates attached to them than secured loan options and you may be limited because you can actually borrow here. Secured loans, however, lower interest rates and can be traded for a higher amount. The reason for this is that this type of loan using your property (usually your home) as collateral against the loan. So if you default on your repayments your lender a cast iron guarantee that they get their money from property used as collateral.
Unless you are a homeowner, you will generally be limited to enter into unsecured loans, but here, if you own your property, you must make a choice between a secured loan or not. It really comes down to personal preference and how comfortable you are using your home as collateral for more. In most cases this is not a problem and most people opt for secured loans to get the right type of loan rates and amounts for their own purposes.
